Hair is deeply tied to identity, which artist Lorna Simpson brings to life to generate new meanings. In her collages and paintings, Simpson constructs her own signs of empowerment through the vast visual language of Black hair. Taking a cue from Simpson’s artwork, students will reimagine and collage / paint their own hairstyles, adding new and diverse definitions of hair.
