Family portraiture became popular during the Renaissance as a means to convey status, wealth, and other political and social messages. Today, portraiture acts as a vehicle to show the myriad ways that families can exist. Artists will draw inspiration from Marisol Escobar, Devin Osorio, and Alice Neel as they create air dry clay sculptures that represent a close friend, caregiver, or family member in their lives.
